A 16-year-old boy, Erias Ahereza, was allegedly tortured and murdered by his stepmother, Ninsiima Regisi, in Nyakagyera cell, Burora parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county, Rukungiri district.
The incident came to light on August 19, 2024, after a neighbor reported the boy’s condition to the area chairperson, Aston Mutabazi.
According to reports, the teenager was assaulted and locked in a room for a week before being rescued and rushed to Kebisoni Health Centre.
He was later referred to Kisiizi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on August 20, 2024, at around 1700hrs.
The police have arrested the suspect, Ninsiima Regisi, and are holding her at Kiyenje Police Station.

The crime scene has been examined and documented, and the body has been taken to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The motive behind the child’s torture and murder is still unknown, and inquiries are ongoing.
ASP Elly Maate, PRO Kigezi, confirmed the incident and urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
