A new initiative by the Uganda Police Force aims to establish secondary and vocational schools in all regions to cater to the children and dependents of serving police officers.
Acting Commissioner SSP Jane Nakityo announced the plans at a meeting with senior police officers in Jinja City, revealing that the first school will be built in Kikandwa, Wakiso district.
“…there is already an earmarked premise for Kikandwa which will be a pilot project before it is rolled out to the rest of the country and the process is on…,” Nakityo said.
She encouraged police officers to take advantage of the schools, saying, “…very soon advertisements inviting interested applicants will be placed in various platforms to apply and take up these jobs of serving Ugandans as teachers in these schools…”
Nakityo also expressed concern that police primary schools within barracks are underutilized by police officers’ children, saying, “…if only 20% of learners are children of the police and the rest belong to the community, don’t you think even the residents will lose confidence in the police schools…”
She pleaded with her colleagues to be proud of their own institution, citing CP Paul Nkore, a former Kiira RPC, as an old pupil of a police school.
