Angry residents of Mugiti Sub-county in Budaka District took matters into their own hands on Tuesday 20-08-2024, closing down Kamonkoli Police Station in protest of alleged duty negligence by its officers.

The move comes after a local resident, identified as Ssabakaki, was stabbed to death by unknown assailants following a night attack.

According to eyewitnesses, Ssabakaki had reported the incident to the police and was told to seek medical attention first, only to be found dead the next morning along the Mbale-Tirinyi Highway.

The residents, who accused the police officers of demanding bribes to handle cases, stormed the station and locked it up using padlocks, demanding the immediate transfer of the Officer in Charge, Lwegaba David.
