The police have released a statement clarifying the death toll in the accident involving a PokoPoko bus that occurred on April 20, 2025, at Biwanga village, West division, Mubende municipality, Mubende district along the Mubende-Kyegegwa highway.
Contrary to initial reports suggesting multiple fatalities, the police have confirmed that two people lost their lives in the incident.
According to the police report, the accident happened when the bus, registration number UBR 796N, experienced a tire burst while traveling from Mubende to Kyegegwa.
The driver, Ngobi John, lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road, knocked against an anthill, and overturned, resulting in the deaths of two females, one adult and one juvenile, whose identities have not yet been established.
Twelve other people were injured in the accident and were rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. The police have taken custody of the bus, which has been towed to Kawadisa parking yard pending inspection.
The scene was visited by police officers, who drew a sketch plan and documented the scene. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mubende Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
The police have identified the suspected cause of the accident as a tire burst.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
